A “Vivid” Experience

Everyone knows the hardest question of all to answer in college is what are your plans after you graduate? Where are you going, or where will you work? What are your ultimate goals? And while many know exactly what their ultimate goals are, it is much more challenging to secure the steps in reaching those goals. However, for Interior Design graduate from RCC, Gina Hicks, she bypassed all the small steps and jumped straight into her dream job.

Directly after graduating from RCC, Gina partnered with a long-time friend to start the interior design business she had been dreaming of. Naming the business Vivid Interiors, she set out to retail creative and unique home accessories and furniture. Gina’s retail store features all types of daring decor and trendy styles for sale, but also acts as a space for their additional design services. Gina and her business partner informed our students that a lot more goes into a successful design business than solely being a great designer. Having an organized and structured business plan as well as reliable employees is a critical aspect in the foundation of the business, but also being different and unique from your competitors sets your business apart. Gina challenged the class to be creative and adventurous in our future goals, but not to forget about reliability and hard-work.
